The Inner Demon of Rage is an easy one to overwhelm you. And attempts to bind it, internalize it, suppress it will only lead to an even greater explosion not far down the line.

We are all a combination of various ticks, inner demons, and quirks. They are all there, bubbling under the surface. And yet we all attempt to present something far more structured to the world. A curated version of ourselves we believe to be more palatable than the relative mess hidden sometimes just barely below. But I would argue that those very demons we try to hide are the parts that make us truly individuals- unique and far more lovely than any artifice could achieve.

When your subconscious is consumed by a single, overwhelming
Inner Demon it can be toxic.
gouache with oil pencils 6"x6" comes in a white shadow-box frame.
A smaller piece in my Inner Demon Series. It is my view that our subconscious - all the inner demons, habits, and quirks that compose our innermost selves- is a major part of who we are. Looking beneath that layer is our most accurate self-portrait.
The Clavis Foraminis series explores the tantalizing nature of voyeurism. Looking through various “portal” keyholes I am able to depict various scenes, both fantastical and mundanely intimate. This particular piece is the latter: an extreme close-up of a moment before contact.
The Clavis Foraminis series explores the tantalizing nature of voyeurism. Looking through various “portal” keyholes I am able to depict various scenes, both fantastical and mundanely intimate. This particular piece is the former: a Seer Owl pressed up against the portal, staring back at the viewer. The only time you will see an acknowledgment of the viewer is when they possess a “Third Sight.”

The inner demon of Nostalgia is one of the most nefarious demons I have incorporated into my series so far. Most people see this creature as a harmless fond glance back at times past- but there is a lot at work here that causes a person to forget the mistakes/problems along with any lessons those less-ideal aspects may have taught us.
To paraphrase Bojack Horseman: “When you look at something through rose-tinted glasses, all the red flags just look like flags . . . “
This piece is Clavis Foraminis-adjacent, created specifically for this unique frame given to me by a talented friend, Jack Walsh. When I received it I was immediately reminded of a cross between the insanity of The Shining’s famous Axe-In-The-Door “Here’s Jonny” moment and a voyeuristic eye. There is something eerie about the end result and I am extremely proud of that fact.
This piece depicts the inner demon of Haphephobia (the fear of touch). Manifesting as a swarm of arms slowly encasing the subject in a cocoon, paralyzed. Knowing your boundaries is important, but if you allow this demon to consume you it can quickly lead to other, equally detrimental demons taking hold until simple human interaction on any level can cause a nervous breakdown.
